When you get writer's block, what do you do to try and cure it??

Well, I guess you could say I had writers block for about 8 years.
What did I do? Nothing.. just went about my life, figuring that it would either go away or it wouldn't.
Nowadays if I'm having trouble writing something, I have to just leave it for a while.. I don't have enough time to just sit and stare at the computer screen. Most of my writing is done during naptime, when I have laundry and other chores vying for my attention, or after the kids are in bed, when I have various online meetings to attend, TV shows that I'm addicted to, or a husband that needs a little attention. |

I gave up trying to write when hubby is around. Not that he bothers me....but I feel a little guity. After all, I bouce most of my ideas off of him...so I try to pay him attention after he gets home.
I don't have the kids factor yet (hopfully soon), but i do have my chores (why can't I have a maid?). I'm like you, if i'm having major problems, I just forget about it for a while. Normally it comes to me and if not, I go on to another story.
Anybody else??

Ah yes, writer's block. So easy to catch, so hard to get rid off.
Whenever I feel like my writing isn't flowing the way it's supposed to, or whenever I can't seem to get into the right mood, or (and this happens a lot) whenever I can't find the right words, I dive straight into my music library. I pick out a song that fits the atmosphere I want to create in my story and I put it on repeat. Once I'm "in the zone" my writer's block has vanished.
That's the power of music, baby! _________________ Whatever life throws at you, throw it right back.

| I'm with you niah1988; music! Although I did get writer's block for about two years and just couldn't write anything to save myself. Music didn't help then, but somehow it cleared and I could write again. But I always use music. I use it to help me write; picking out the theme of the fic (which doesn't really change from angst) and getting some music to go with it. I have a 'bones' playlist as well which has most of the songs played over the past two seasons and I find that really helps. |
